You may have heard that it's best to purchase your domain name from one company, your hosting from another company and your shopping cart from yet another company. This all makes sense if you're good at figuring out who you need to contact if something goes wrong. For example, one day you go to your website and all you see is a blank page. Who do you call? The shopping cart developer? So you contact the developer and within a few hours, she tells you that her script is fine, check with the web host. So you contact the web host. A few more hours later, the web host says your site is fine, check with your domain registrar. So, you write an email to your domain registrar, and they tell you that it's not their fault, you need to talk to the web host. If you're lucky, you'll figure out what is wrong in a day or two.

We keep our ear to the ground and any time we hear of a vulnerability -- or a possible security hole -- we immediately contact our technology team and create a patch. Since all of our shopping carts are on our servers, we can easily patch multiple files across all accounts at once. And in cases where we know our clients have customized certain files, we have a centralized location where we notify our clients of new patches that they can install themselves, with the instructions we provide, or hire us to personally handle the patch, for a nominal fee.
This sure beats finding out the hard way that your carts developer released a critical security patch, and you didn't know about it, because you aren't a member of the developer's mailing list and your host has no experience with your cart or contact with the developer. Yikes!
